cone cake bites! (tutorial/recipe)
DIY: easy pom poms!
pom poms are really easy to make… you can go out and buy a pom pom maker - (i have this one, but i’ve never used it!) OR you can just use your best tools (your hands) and make them in a snap!
MATERIALS: yarn (about 5.5 feet), plus another 7 inch-ish strand, sharp scissors
*this tutorial makes an approximately 2 inch pom pom*
- begin by wrapping your long strand of yarn around your middle and pointer fingers (on your non-dominant hand), holding the beginning steady with your thumb
- wrap the entire length of the yarn around your fingers until you reach the end
- gently pull the wound yarn bundle off of your fingers and use the 7 inch strand to tie a tight knot around the center of the bundle (be gentle and you won’t have any trouble!)
- using a sharp scissor, snip the middle of each loop in your pom pom - it’s okay if they’re not even!
- now you have a really silly looking pom pom, but all you have to do is snip around and even out the strands to make it nice and round
- once you’ve snipped around, use your fingers to smush the yarn a little, let the yarn come apart a little if it’s a loose yarn like mine, and TA DA! you’ve got a perfectly adorable pom pom!
- your pom pom will have the long strands that you tied around the bundle hanging free, these are really useful if you want to attach the pom pom to something else! if not, you can trim them to blend in with the rest of your pom pom.
YAY! have fun, make these flowers! or just surround yourself with fluff : )
